River Plate vs Boca Juniors prediction: Who will win tonight's Copa Libertadores final?

Publish date: 2024-07-28

Last month's first leg ended 2-2 at El Bombanero, the home of Boca Juniors after River came from behind twice to level proceedings.

But the return fixture was postponed twice and then suspended after Boca players were attacked by rivals fans as their bus approached the stadium.

Tonight's second leg will now be played in Madrid, Spain to avoid any further crowd trouble.

But who is likely to win the Copa Libertadores at the Santiago Bernabeu this evening?

South American journalist Roberto Rojas, who runs the 'Low Limit Futbol' podcast gave his opinion to Starsport: "I mean certainly it’s different from what we expected.

"It’s the first final outside of South America and ironically in the country where the tournament that it’s dedicated to fighting off the mother country for independence but having said that, I think River Plate are still slight favourites.

"Due to their key players and what they possess but I still feel it’s still even whereas Boca will be motivated to go out there and win following everything that happened.

"I still put River at perhaps 55-45 per cent chance of winning."

A tight game is expected, which is shown in the betting market - and the bookmakers can hardly split the pair.

River Plate can be backed to win at 7/5, with Boca a best price of 12/5.

The draw is currently 2/1.

And both sides are missing key players ahead of the grudge match.

River Plate striker Rafael Borre picked up his third yellow card of the knockout stages and is therefore suspended.

Nicholas De La Cruz is also still out of action.

As for Boca, key man Christian Pavon is facing a race against time to be fit after only managing 24 minutes of the first leg.

Frank Fabra continues to recover from a torn ACL.
