Jean Smallwood Middendorf | Obituaries

Jean Smallwood Middendorf, 92, went to be with her Lord on July 31, 2018. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home (1600 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie, La.) at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Visitation begins at 12:30 p.m. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Lake Park Cemetery in Laurel.

A native of Laurel, Jean later lived in Jackson, where she met and married her husband. The family moved to River Ridge, La., in 1966. Jean was a devoted person of her faith. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, AARP Chapter 1131, and the Harahan Senior Center. She dedicated countless hours of volunteer work to various organizations, including Girl Scouts of America. She stayed busy with family, friends and activities she loved. The family thanks the nurses and staff of St. Francis Villa Assisted Living, Bettyann Gordon and Compassus Hospice Care.

She was the wife of the late Robert P. Middendorf and daughter of the late Henry W. and Allie Biggs Smallwood; mother of Marianne M. Dauer (Mark) of Harahan, La., Perry M. Deglandon (Terry) of Virginia Beach, Va., and Sandra B. Middendorf (Tom) of River Ridge, La.; grandmother of Helen Dauer Yan, John Dauer, Grace Dauer Blough, Lea Deglandon Bennett and Jordan Deglandon Campbell; great-grandmother of Astrid Yan, Coralie Bennett, Wilder Bennett and Brooks Campbell.
